iXsystems and Storj have joined forces to introduce the globally distributed storage (GDS) service on the latest release of TrueNAS Scale Bluefin BETA. This innovative service offers unparalleled resilience, security, and speed at a significantly lower cost compared to Amazon S3 and other cloud storage options.
Storj, a leading provider of Web3 storage solutions, has integrated with TrueNAS to offer offsite S3-compatible storage at a fraction of the cost of AWS. This opens up the opportunity for TrueNAS users to have a second or third geographic location for their data, making it an ideal choice for organizations with multiple sites.
GDS perfectly complements the already powerful capabilities of TrueNAS, which is widely known for its high-performance and reliable ZFS-based storage system. With GDS, TrueNAS can now act as both a client and node for the service, giving users greater flexibility in managing their data.

What’s even more impressive is the pricing of the GDS service. At only $4 per TB per month for storage and $7 per TB for bandwidth, it offers users over 80% savings compared to similar services. According to iXsystems, GDS will be available on TrueNAS Scale Angelfish and TrueNAS 13.0 in Q4 2022.

These include improved performance with HA support for over 1,000 drives per node, hardened clustering with simplified operations and Kubernetes CSI, and enhanced security with FIPS 140-3 compliance and improved Role-Based Access Control.
TrueNAS Scale Bluefin, the second major version of SCALE, follows in the footsteps of Angelfish and builds upon it with greater functional capabilities for scale-out storage and open hyper-convergence.
